Tourist Visa
Valid US Passport
You must submit your current undamaged passport and it must have one blank visa page. The passport must be signed and valid for six months from the date of departure.
India Visa Application
The Consulate of India requires a visa application form that is completed online. To begin the application process, click on the “Regular Visa Application” button.
Visa Photos
- Two passport photos should be 2” x 2” on a white background.
- Photo should be taken within the last six months.
- Photo printed on high-quality photo paper.
Proof of Residency/State Residency
A clear photocopy of your driver license or stated-issued ID is required. The address on the ID must match the address on the Indian visa application form. Alternatively, the most recent utility bill or a copy of a valid lease containing the signatures of both the landlord and tenant mat be accepted.
Additional Particulars Form
The Additional Particulars Form must be signed and completed.
Indian Visa Additional Documents for Children Under 18
Here are some of the additional documents required for applicants under the age of 18:
- Original notarized parental authorization for copy of the minor’s birth certificate.
- Copy of both parents’ signed passports.
- Copy of the parents’ marriage certificate.
- Signed and notarized parental authorization letter.
Visa applications for children must be signed by both parents and notarized. A copy of a parent’s driver’s license or utility bill can be used for proof of residential address in the United States.
A child 5 years old or older should sign their name inside the signature box under the photo on the first page of the application. If the child is under the age of 5, the child’s thumbprint must be stamped inside the signature box under the photo on the first page of the application. Both parents must sign the application on the second page of the application.
Non-US Citizen Requirements
- You must submit your current undamaged non-US passport and it must have one blank visa page. The passport must be signed and valid for six months from the date of departure.
- You will have to provide proof of their current residency address. The document must either be a copy of the front and back of your driver’s license, government-issued ID, or utility bill.
- You must provide proof of your current immigration status or a copy of their Green Card.
- You must also provide proof that they possess sufficient funds and financial details, including:
- A copy of recent bank statements.
- A display of their full name.
Note: Travelers under the age of 18 must also provide a copy of their birth certificate and a signed latter of consent from both parents/guardians authorizing the minor to travel.

Business Visa
Business Letter from US Company
A letter from the employer or sponsoring company in the United States on company letterhead is required. The letter must be signed by an appropriate person in the applicant’s company such as a human resources representative, an executive of the company, or the direct supervisor of the applicant. The business letter will have to introduce the applicant, indicate the applicant’s employment status or position held in the company, and clearly state the purpose of the visit to India. The business must also state the validity of the visa applied for and indicate who will be financially responsible for the applicant. Contact information about the organization must be included as well.
Consulate Fee/Payment Method
Regular Processing: $160.00 for a 1-year visa (10-14 business days).
Regular Processing: $270.00 for 5- or 10-year visa (10-14 business days).
Employment Visa
Employment Contract
You must provide an original official letter from the organization or company affirming your employment offer. The letter must include:
- The position or job title with the company.
- The dates of your employment offer.
- Your name as it appears on their passport.
- A signature of the employer.
Justification Letter
Applicants must provide a letter from their employer in India, certifying that the applicant is a skilled and qualified professional, technical expert, senior executive, or in a managerial position. The letter should also indicate and justify how those skills are not available in India.
Salary Info and Resume
Applicants must submit their resume, an employment appointment letter that contains salary information, the employment contract, and an Organization Registration proving the registration of the company. The letter must also indicate that the salary meets or exceeds a minimum $25,000/year.
Tax Liability
Applicants must provide a tax liability letter from the company in India. The tax liability must certify these details:
- The company in India should be liable/take responsibility for paying taxes on behalf of the applicant.
- Foreigners will not exceed 1% of the total project/contract workforce.
- Within the 1% limit, foreigners must not exceed more than 20 employees.
- If the number of foreign employees is within 1% but more than 20, applicants should understand that there may be a delay in the issuance of their visa.
Certificate of Incorporation
Applicants must provide proof of registration of the organization or a copy of the Incorporation Certificate of the Indian company.
Spouses/Dependents Accompanying an Employment Visa Applicant
Spouses and/or dependent family members accompanying an employment visa applicant must apply for an entry visa, not a tourist visa.

Student Visa
Letter of Acceptance
A letter from a recognized Indian educational institution with a registration number in India confirming admission, duration, and details of the course as well as financial arrangements for the applicant while in the country is required. In case of admission in medical or paramedical courses in India, a letter of Approval or No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India is required. If admission is to graduate or post-graduate courses in engineering or technical institutions, a letter of approval or a No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Human Resources Development (Department of Education) is needed. A letter from a recognized Indian educational institution and a letter from a US educational institution are needed.
Proof of Sufficient Funds
Student applicants must submit proof of sufficient funds. Recent bank statements are recommended.
Visa of Indian Origin
Name Change Documents
If an applicant has changed their name due to marriage or divorce, they must bring a copy of their marriage certificate or a court decree that shows their name change.
Indian Visa Requirement
If the applicant is of Indian origin, they’re required to renounce their Indian citizenship to apply for an India visa. Applicants must provide the following documents:
- A Certificate of Renunciation issued by a Consulate of India (if you currently hold an Indian passport, you must provide a copy of the Renunciation Form).
- A copy of the first and last pages of your Indian passport.
- A copy of your Naturalization Certificate.
Renunciation Requirement
- Applicants must submit their current or expired original Indian passport.
- A copy of their Naturalization Certificate.
- A copy of their marriage certificate (for females).
Name change documents are required due to marriage, divorce, or court to process a Renunciation Certificate.

Indian OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) / Renunciation
Complete Online Application
The Consulate General of India, Houston requires a completed Indian Passport Application Form.
Original Indian Passport
Applicant must provide their current or expired Indian passport, including one copy of the personal information page of their passport. You should renew your passport six months before its expiration date.
Passport Photos
- Must be 2” x 2” on a white background.
- Full frontal view of your head with your face centered in the middle displaying a neutral, non-smiling expression.
- No eyeglasses or headwear allowed except for religious purposes.
- Photo cannot be older than three months.
Residency Status
You must provide proof of your current immigration status (H1-B, H-4, L1, L2, EAD, I-120 copies) or a copy of your Green Card front/back.
Child OCI
Underage applicants must provide:
- Both parents’ Indian passport copies.
- A copy of their immigration status (H1-B, H-4, L1, L2, EAD, I-120 copies) or a copy of their Green Card front/back.
- Two original parental consent letters (signed and notarized)
- Their signature or thumbprint on the application.
- A copy of their birth certificate.
- A copy of their parents’ marriage certificate.
If the applicant has ever had an Indian passport, they must apply for a Renunciation Certificate for a cancellation of their passport or submit proof of Renunciation Certificate. Renunciation Proof
If you have lost your current Indian passport, please submit at least four additional documents to redeem a Renunciation Certificate. These additional documents include:
- Copies of your Indian passport.
- Your Indian birth certificate.
- School leaving certificate.
- High school diploma issued by the Indian government.
- Copies of your parents’ Indian passports.
- Copy of your parents’ marriage certificate.
- Copies of your parents’ birth or death certificates issued by the Indian government.
Female Applicant
Female applicants must submit a copy of their marriage certificate or divorce decree.
Letter of Authorization
A fully completed letter of authorization is needed to give Chicago Passport & Visa Services the authorization to complete your visa service.

India Emergency Visa
Indian Emergency Visa
A valid passport and visa are required to travel to India. The Indian government now offers two visa options for tourists and business travelers - a traditional visa and an electronic/emergency visa. While traditional visas are stamped inside the holder’s passport, eVisas are valid for only two months from the date of entry and are issued electronically.
